What Is a Tibbe Key?

A Tibbe key is a round, cylindrical key with a series of angled cuts around its shaft instead of the traditional flat cuts along the edge. It was developed by the Tibbe company in the Netherlands and used by Jaguar and Ford on select models from the late 1970s through the early 2000s.

Because of its unusual design, standard key cutting machines can’t touch it. It requires specialized equipment and expertise — which is why most locksmiths simply turn Tibbe key customers away.
